Lady Eagles edge George Ranch 66-63

PEARLAND DAWSON — Dawson head coach Isabelle Gomez has seen a great turnaround by her girls in the second round of district action.

The Lady Eagles finished the first round with a 2-4 record, but now have a 4-1 mark in the second round for a 6-5 record with one more game to go. Dawson is currently tied with George Ranch for the fourth playoff spot and will face second-place Alief Taylor in the final game of district while George Ranch must take on first place Elsik.

Dawson fell to George Ranch in the first round, but avenged the earlier loss with a 66-63 win over the Lady Longhorns.

Angelica White has come on strong for the Lady Eagles in the second half and led the way with 19 points while Kyra Lunford continued her consistent play with 11 points.

George Ranch controlled the first half that seemed like they would put away Dawson to eliminate them from the post-season.

The Lady Longhorns took the first quarter 19-17 and then stretched their lead 22-14 in the second period for a 41-31 lead at intermission.

But Dawson came out on fire in the second half to double up George Ranch 22-11 in the third quarter for a improbable 53-52 lead entering the final frame.

The Lady Eagles continued their momentum to close out the game 13-11 for the 66-63 win that would keep their post-season hopes alive.

Dawson closed out the regular season on Tuesday night (late).
