The 2023-2024 basketball season has been a banner year for the Dawson Lady Eagles (28-10, 8-4) as they advanced to the post-season for the first time since 2016 under the guidance of head coach Sharee Griffin.

Not only did they qualify for the playoffs but they finished in second place in the District 23-6A title race behind the Pearland Lady Oilers (12-0).

Dawson opened up the Class 6A Region III bi-district playoffs with a lopsided 51-28 win over the Clear Lake Lady Falcons.

The Lady Eagles set the pace early in the opening quarter as they outscored the Lady Falcons 19-10.

The game settled down in the second period as Dawson edged Clear Lake 9-5 to take a 28-15 lead at intermission.

Dawson stretched the margin 16-7 in the third period to make the score 44-22 entering the final frame.

The Lady Eagles closed out the game 7-6 in the final quarter to post the 51-28 final score.

Sophomore Kendall Ford scored a game-high 12 points as well as grabbing three rebounds and three steals while senior Kennedy Smith added eight points and seven boards.

Summer Creek 47 Dawson 29

Dawson had the daunting task of facing the Summer Creek Lady Bulldogs (32-3), who are the No. 3 state-ranked team in the state and a two-time 6A Region III finalist, in the 6A Region III area round.

As they have done all season, the Lady Eagles accepted the challenge and gave it their best effort, but Summer Creek was able to thwart off Dawson to grab a 47-29 win which ended the season for the Lady Eagles.

Summer Creek opened up the first quarter with 18 points while holding Dawson to only eight points and they never looked back.

The Lady Bulldogs increased the margin 13-9 in the second quarter for a 31-15 lead at halftime.

Both teams battle in the second half as Summer Creek took the third quarter 8-7 and the final period by the same score 8-7 to post the 47-29 final score.

The Lady Eagles finished the season with a sparkling 28-10 record. The future is bright for Dawson as they have only two seniors (Kennedy Smith, Essania Landers) on this year's squad.
