Dawson splits district action with Alvin and Sam Rayburn

PEARLAND — The Dawson Eagles opened up District 22-6A action with a 12-8 loss to Alvin and then rebounded with a win over Sam Rayburn 6-4.

It was a battle of the bats against Alvin as both teams were able to generate some offense, but it was a seven-run fourth inning that turned the tide in favor of the Yellowjackets.

Up until that time, Dawson was leading 7-5 through the top of the fourth, but Alvin went up for good in the bottom of the fourth, scoring seven runs on an RBI double, two errors, and two singles.

The top of the first saw Dawson take an early lead, 3-0. A double by Chris Jefferson scored Drake Rainer. The Eagles pushed two more runs across when Toler and Jefferson scored on a two-run single by Michael Oyervides.

The Eagles brought home one run in the third inning, and matched that run total in the fifth. In the third Dawson scored on an error with Rainer crossing the plate.

Leading 12-7, Dawson added one more run in the top of the seventh, but the Jackets were able to close out the Eagles for the district win.

Jefferson went 2-for-2 at the plate with one run scored and two RBIs. Rainer was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Oyervides was 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.

Dawson 6 - Sam Rayburn 4

Dawson scored four runs in the bottom of the first, one in the third, and one in the sixth to seal the 6-4 win over the Sam Rayburn Texans.

Michael Oyervides racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Dawson. He tripled in the first inning and singled in the third inning.

Dawson's Walker Clayton looked sharp on the hill as Sam Rayburn managed just two hits off of the Dawson pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out one during his three innings of work.

Chris Jefferson picked up the save with two scoreless innings in relief.

The Eagles will host Pearland on Friday, March 11 at 7:00 p.m. and then they will travel to face Manvel on Tuesday, March 15 at 7:00 p.m.
