Lady Eagles win two straight district games

PEARLAND DAWSON — After Dawson dropped their District 23-6A opener to cross-town cousin Pearland 1-0, the Lady Eagles have rebounded to get two wins over playoff contenders Brazoswood (5-1) and George Ranch (5-1). Dawson is now 2-1 in the league standings.

The Lady Eagles should sweep the Alief schools who offer little resistance.

Dawson 5 - Brazoswood 1

Dawson scored four runs in the top of the fourth against Brazoswood for a 4-0 lead.

The Lady Buccaneers scored a run in the bottom of the fourth inning, but the Lady Eagles matched that run in the top of the fifth to post the final score 5-1.

Dawson senior pitcher Courtney Day limited the Lady Bucs to only four hits, one run while whiffing 13 and walking one to pick up the win in the pitching circle.

Leading the offense was Kyra Lunford (3-for-4, one run), Olivia Johnson (2-for-4, one run, one RBI), Brooke Tolar (1-for-3, two RBIs), and Hannah De La Rosa (1-for-4, two RBIs, double).

Dawson 5 - George Ranch 1

Dawson picked up their second consecutive district win over the George Ranch Lady Longhorns 5-1.

The Lady Eagles scored a run five out of the six innings for the convincing win. The only inning they didn't score was the third frame.

George Ranch got a single run in the top of the fifth after Dawson had built a 3-0 lead.

Courtney Day picked up the win after a stellar performance in the pitching circle. Day allowed five hits, one run while striking out 12 and walking two.

Top hitters for Dawson were Kirsten Williams (3-for-3, two runs, one RBI), Olivia Johnson 2-for-4, two RBIs), Peyton Ellermann (2-for-4, one run), and Brooke Tolar (2-for-3).
