Pearland senior midfielder Ethan Krchnak (in white) fends off an aggressive move by Dawson senior midfielder Brogan Heintz.

The Oilers would get the best of the Eagles winning 5-1. The win puts the Oilers firmly in position to take the third playoff spot in district with Shadow Creek and Alief Taylor going down to the wire for the fourth spot.

Dawson will not be able to catch up, but first-year head coach and former Oiler assistant Alistair Hughes has seen steady improvement over the course of the season and will have a solid foundation to build on for 2024.

Pearland junior forward Emma Merritt (in white) and Dawson freshman defender Sumaya Stewart go for a header on a throw in last Tuesday night's match.

The Oilers had several chances to take the lead in the last three minutes of the game, including a penalty kick, but thanks to some stellar play by Dawson goalkeeper Addison Engle the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

The result was crucial for the Eagles with Pearland and Shadow Creek currently tied for first place in district and Dawson waiting in the wings in third.

The draw with Pearland means the most likely scenario will have all three teams finishing the regular season tied and sharing the district championship.
