Barre, Lewis, Sanni headline All-District selections


The All-District 22-6A basketball teams were selected and Dawson head coach Mark Barre and three of his players set the pace for those honored.

Barre has been at the helm of the Dawson basketball program since the school opened in 2007 and he has done an incredible job in leading the team to the playoffs multiple times and capturing the 22-6A crown this season after the Eagles have been in 4A from the beginning. This was the first year that Dawson competed in the largest classification of Texas after being realigned last year. The Eagles went 15-1 in league play and unseated Manvel who was the defending district champion giving them the No. 1 seed entering the playoffs.

The Eagles won their first two playoff games before coming up short against the Clear Creek Wildcats in the 6A Region III quarterfinals to finish with a 30-6 overall season mark.

Dawson's Jordan Lewis was named the District 22-6A Most Valuable Player. The four-year starter played in over 100 games for the Eagles during his high school career and was the team's leading scorer.

Others making the first-team All-District team for Dawson were senior C.J. Simmons and junior Paul Taulton.

The Pearland Oilers saw their freshman sensation Ajare Sanni named as the District Newcomer of the Year.

Manvel placed Linton Acliese on the first-team.

Shohn Dixon was the only other Pearland player selected to the All-District first-team.

Named to the second-team was junior Randy Dobbs of Dawson.

Manvel's Sterling Fulton and Jalen Preston were selected to the second-team.

Players named to the All-Academic team included: Wes Winters (Dawson), Colen James (Pearland), and D'Eriq King (Manvel).
