Lady Eagles punch ticket to the playoffs

PEARLAND — The Dawson Lady Eagles continue to pick up momentum as the regular season comes to an end and the playoffs get ready to begin.

The Lady Eagles failed to make the playoffs last year with a senior dominated team. Under new coach Katelyn Griffin and only four seniors, Dawson is in second-place in the District 22-6A standings and has secured their place in the post-season.

Dawson picked up two solid wins last week over Pasadena Dobie (2-1) and Pasadena (15-0) to reserve their ticket in the playoffs and a nine-game winning streak in district.

Griffin has done an outstanding job this season in bringing a lot of young players together to be one of the top teams in 22-6A including wins over Pearland and Alvin. Dawson is currently tied with Alvin for second place in the league standings.

The game was close against Dobie as Dawson needed to get the win to make sure they would continue their season.

Freshman pitching sensation Courtney Day didn't get much support from her teammates on offense, but she got it done anyway as she pitched seven strong innings to carry the Lady Eagles to a 2-1 win.

Dobie got a run in the bottom of the third for a 1-0 lead which held up until the top of the sixth when Dawson pushed across two runs and a 2-1 advantage.

Day gave up one run and four hits in seven innings while striking out six and issuing one walk for the Lady Eagles.

In the sixth, Amber Stone singled, went from second to third on a groundout, and scored on an RBI single by Amber Langston to take the 2-1 lead.

Dawson 15 - Pasadena 0

The game against Pasadena only lasted three innings because of the mercy-rule as Dawson routed the Lady Eagles 15-0.

Dawson scored ten runs in the first inning, three in the second, and ended the game with two more in the third to chalk up their ninth straight district victory with the playoffs just around the corner.

The game was highlighted by a three-run blast by Amber Langston in the first and a solo homer by Courtney Day in the third.

Dawson had 15 runs on 15 hits to get the win.
