Lady Eagles fall to Dobie 8-6

PEARLAND — The sixth inning proved to be the difference in the game between the Dawson Lady Eagles and the Dobie Lady Longhorns.

Dawson (12-13) was in a must-win situation in order to make the post-season. A win would keep their season alive to continue beyond the regular schedule.

Unfortunately, Dobie rallied in the sixth with three big runs to take an 8-6 lead and then held the Lady Eagles scoreless in the final two frames for the clutch District 22-6A win to knock Dawson out of the playoff hunt.

Dobie scored two runs in the top of the first for a 2-0 lead, but Dawson answered with a run in the bottom of the first to cut the lead to 2-1.

The Lady Longhorns added three more in the top of the second off starter Rylee Rodriguez to bump up the lead to 5-1.

But Dawson wasn't going down easy as they matched the three runs in the bottom of the third to trail only 5-4.

The Lady Eagles surged ahead in the bottom of the fourth with two more runs for the 6-5 lead.

Sammie Page laced a a one-out single followed by a double by Rodriguez sending Page to third. Another double sent Page and Rodriguez across the plate and a one-run lead.

That lasted until Dobie's sixth inning three-run rally that proved to be the difference.

Rodriguez doubled twice for Dawson and Sammie Page went 2-for-3.

Baylee Malone, Alexis Zarate and Amber Langston each had one of Dawson’s total of six doubles.

Gabrielle Chacon pitched five frames in relief of Rodriguez. She gave up six hits, three runs and one walk to take the loss.
