Dawson water polo teams advance to state


PEARLAND — For the first time in school history, the Dawson boys and girls water polo teams have qualified for the 2016 State Water Polo Tournament.

Both teams finished in second place in District 33 and then advanced to the South Region Tournament which was held at the Pearland Natatorium on April 14-16.

The Dawson Lady Eagles registered a 4-2 mark at region and used a 10-6 win over Clear Creek to advance to the state tournament.

Named to the All-Region first-team was Kaylee Champion and Brynn McCurly while Sarika Aggarwal, Mia Simmons, and Rachel Stroh were named to the All-Region honorable mention.

The Dawson boys also finished with a 4-2 mark at the regional tournament and the Eagles secured their place in the state tournament with a hard-fought 3-2 win over Brazoswood.

Named to the All-Region first-team was Nathan Schluns while Noah Smith and Elliot Fleming were named to the All-Region honorable mention.

The State Water Polo Tournament will be held at the Texas A&M Natatorium on April 29-30.
