Dawson soars past Oak Ridge 42-7

PEARLAND DAWSON — The Dawson Eagles built a 21-0 lead in the first half before Oak Ridge finally put points on the scoreboard. Those seven points would be the only ones that the Dawson defense would allow as the Eagles flew past the War Eagles 42-7 in a non-district contest at The Rig in the season opener for both teams.

Dawson took the opening kickoff 84-yards in five plays capped off by a 10-yard scoring run by Blake Smith. Carter Brown booted the PAT giving the Eagles an early 7-0 lead with 10:20 left in the first quarter.

After Eagles forced a punt after three plays netted minus-five yards for Oak Ridge, Dawson set up at their own five-yard line.

The two teams traded punts with Dawson taking their third possession of the game at their own 23. The Eagles scored on a eight-play, 76-yard drive as quarterback Myles Kitt-Denton hit Bobby Wooden with a 14-yard scoring strike for a 14-0 lead with :07 seconds left in the opening period.

Dawson's next score came on a 4-yard scoring dash by Kitt-Denton with 5:37 left in the second quarter. The score was set up by a 70-yard catch and run from Kitt-Denton to Wooden making the score 21-0.

With 1:11 left in the first half, Oak Ridge finally found the end zone on a 27-yard scoring pass to close the gap to 21-7 at intermission.

The Dawson defense would shut down the War Eagles in the second half while adding 21 more points to the scoreboard.

Wooden scored on a 39-yard pass from Kitt-Denton; Michael Boudreaux caught a scoring strike from Kitt-Denton covering 23-yards; and Ja'Den Stewart would burn the Oak Ridge on a 26-yard scoring dash to post the final 42-7 score.

Kitt-Denton was 13-of-17 passing for 260 yards and 3 TDs and also had eight carries for 37 yards rushing and 1 TD.

Dawson will host the Summer Creek Bulldogs at The Rig on Friday, September 6 at 7:00 p.m. in another non-district contest.
