Dawson throttles Houston Heights 58-19

PEARLAND DAWSON — The Dawson Eagles rebounded from their season opening loss last week with a 58-19 pounding over the Houston Heights Bulldogs.

All aspects of the Eagles were in full throttle mode on offense, defense, and special teams to get the lopsided win.

Leading the way was All-State kicker Carter Brown who may have had the best kicking performance in a single game by an Eagle. The Arizona State commit hit 6-of-7 PATs, 3-of-4 field goals covering 31, 32, and 48 yards for a total of 15 points while averaging 40 yards for two punts. Carter missed a 52-yard field goal which would have broken his school record of 49 yards.

Defensively, the Eagles saw senior defensive back Jaiden Walker pick off two passes to return them for touchdowns covering 45 and 65 yards.

The offense also did their job as Bryce Burgess scored on a sensational 76-yard jaunt while junior quarterback Colin Johnson fired a 27-yard scoring strike to senior wide receiver Ryan Guillo.

Sophomore Tony Roberson III wrapped up the scoring with a 40-yard scamper for a TD to post Dawson's 58 points.

Dawson led 10-6 after the opening quarter and increased the margin to 31-6 at intermission.

The Eagles added 17 more points in the third period for a 48-6 margin entering the final frame.

The fourth quarter saw the Bulldogs finally get more points to close the gap 13-10 while posting the 58-19 final score.

Dawson had 336 total yards and 17 first downs. Burgess led the Eagle ground attack with 11 carries for 132 yards and one score.

Ashton Stroman had five catches for 44 yards while Guillo had two grabs for 32 yards and one score.

Johnson was 9-of-16 passing for 82 yards and one TD.

The Eagles will host the George Ranch Longhorns on Saturday, September 11 at 2:00 p.m. at Pearland ISD Stadium.
