Dawson rips Alvin 45-13


PEARLAND — The game between Dawson and Alvin was almost over before it ever began at Alvin Memorial Stadium in the District 22-6A opener for both schools.

The game was only one quarter old and Dawson had a commanding 32-6 lead.

The Eagles scored on their first possession when QB Zach Smith scored on a 1-yard keeper. The PAT missed the mark leaving the score at 6-0.

It took less than a minute for Alvin to tie up the game on a 57-yard pass from QB Garrett Grey to Jose Medrando. The Yellowjackets also missed the PAT leaving the score tied 6-6.

Then the wheels quickly fell off for Alvin as Dawson five times before intermission for a 39-6 lead.

Drake Rainer scored on a 29-yard pass reception from Smith.

Kaleb White caught a 22-yard scoring strike from Smith.

White scored again on a 5-yard run.

Osby Mitchell scored on a 37-yard scoring strike from Smith and White added another touchdown on an 82-yard bomb from Smith with 5:25 left before the teams took a halftime break.

Dawson scored first in the second half when Darrius Smith sprinted 12-yards for a score at the 3:52 mark.

Alvin finally found paydirt with 1:38 left in the third on a 7-yard run by Grey to close the gap to 45-13.

That would be the end of the scoring and Dawson improves to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in district.

Alvin falls to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in league play.

Smith had a great night for the Eagles hitting 15-of-24 passing for 272 yards and five TDs.

Saevion Johnson had 138 yards rushing on 14 carries.

White had five grabs for 131 yards and two scores while Rainer had four catches for 75 yards and one TD.

Dawson had 479 total yards while Alvin was held to 220 total yards.

Dawson (2-1) will host the Sam Rayburn Texans on Friday, September 18 at 7:00 p.m. for Homecoming at The Rig.
