Dawson falls short to Dickinson 42-24

PEARLAND DAWSON — The final score may look a little lopsided, but the game was much closer until the end of the game as Dickinson survived a strong come back effort by the Dawson Eagles.

With 9:55 left in the third quarter, Dickinson's Dailon Farmer scored his second touchdown of the game on a 2-yard run that gave the Gators a 28-3 lead.

For most teams would give up and ride out the remainder of the game, but not Dawson.

Less than a minute later, Dawson answered as quarterback Myles Kitt-Denton found an opening and sprinted 68-yards for a touchdown to cut the lead to 28-10 with 8:36 left in the period.

Early in the fourth quarter, Dickinson found the end zone on a 34-yard run by Ausary Allah with 10:55 left in the final stanza making the score 35-10.

But the Eagles weren't going away as they scored two more times on a Bobby Wooden 9-yard run and a 1-yard run by Ja'Den Stewart with 4:57 left in the contest to cut the margin to 35-24.

Dawson's defense held the Gators offense to force a punt for the offense to get back on the field.

With 1:20 left in the game, Dickinson sealed the win when Deonza Yoakum got an interception and returned it 45-yards for the score to seal the fate of the Eagles 42-24. It was Yoakum's third pick of the game.

Dickinson built an early 21-0 lead in the first half before Dawson got on the scoreboard with a 24-yard Carter Brown field goal making the score 21-3 at intermission.

Dawson had a sensational 73-yard scoring jaunt by Kitt-Denton called back on a holding infraction.

The loss is the first for the Eagles (2-1) this season while Dickinson improves to 2-1.
