SANTA FE — The Santa Fe Indians battled the Dawson Eagles for one quarter and the Indians won 3-0. Then the sleeping giant woke up and ripped the Indians 54-0 in the next three periods to send a message to the rest of their league foes that they are the team to beat.
When the smoke had cleared around the Indian reservation -- there was no peace pipe to smoke and there were no prisoners to take as Dawson returned home with the convincing District 24-4A conquest.
The Eagles racked up 517 total yards while the Dawson defense limited Santa Fe to only 194 total yards.
Dawson scored 26 points in the second quarter as junior running back James White (22-176-3TD) scored on runs of 3,3, and 18 yards to give the Eagles a 19-3 lead.
QB Garry Kimble added a 6-yard run to close out the first half with a 26-3 advantage.
It was more of the same in the second half as Dawson posted 28 more points.
Isaiah Johnson scored on a 1-yard plunge. Josh Moten caught a 10-yard pass from Kimble. Tre' Oliver scored on a 1-yard run, and Johnson closed out the fourth period with a 35-yard scoring dash.
Kimble finished the night with four carries for 51 yards and a score while hitting 16-of-24 passing for 214 yards and one TD.
Colby Trahan had four catches for 85 yards to lead all the receivers. Mike Williams had three grabs for 53 yards and Moten had four catches for 42 yards and a score.
The most important game to date will be this Friday, September 30 when the Eagles will host the Friendswood Mustangs (2-3, 1-0) in a District 24-4A clash. The winner will move that much closer to claiming the 2011 district championship. Friendswood beat Ball High last week 47-21, but are dealing with a lot of missing parts due to injuries. Game time is at 7:00 p.m. at The Rig.
