Dawson dominates Alief Hastings 40-0

DAWSON — Dawson fans were treated to a record-setting field goal by All-State kicker Carter Brown of 51-yards as the Eagles shutout the Alief Hastings Bears 40-0 in the District 23-6A opener for both teams.

The win at Crump Stadium gives the Eagles a 3-1 season record and 1-0 in league play while Hastings drops to 0-4 this season.

Brown booted his 51-yarder just before intermission to break his school-record field goal of 49-yards while giving the Eagles a commanding 27-0 halftime lead.

The Eagles scored two times early in the first quarter as Bryce Burgess scores on a 6-yard run to take a 7-0 lead following the PAT by Brown.

After getting a Hastings turnover, Dawson scored again on a Brown 36-yard field goal for a 10-0 advantage with 9:21 left in the opening period.

The Eagles would add another score in the first quarter as Burgess scored his second touchdown of the game on a 22-yard scamper. Brown booted the PAT and Dawson had a 17-0 advantage.

The Dawson defense controlled their side of the ball while the offense continued to cash in on their scoring opportunities.

In the second quarter, QB Colin Johnson fired a short pass to Ashton Stroman resulting in a 6-yard scoring pass. Brown hit his third PAT for a 24-0 lead.

The Eagles would take a 27-0 halftime lead thanks to Brown's record-setting 51-yard field goal.

Dawson added two more scores in the third quarter as Johnson fired a 28-yard scoring strike to wide receiver Ryan Guillo and Tony Robinson scored on a 1-yard plunge making the score 40-0 which stood as the final score.

The Dawson defense held Hastings to only 73 yards on the ground and 26 yards passing for a total of 99 yards and seven first downs.

The Eagles also picked off four passes by Jackson Cody, Jaiden Walker, Tylan Good, and Gabriel McFarland.

Johnson was 10-of-19 passing for 169 yards and two touchdowns.

Burgess had seven carries for 74 yards and two scores while Robertson had 10 totes for 34 yards and one TD.

Guillo had four catches for 84 yards and one TD while Stroman had four grabs for 53 yards and one score.

Dawson (3-1, 1-0) will host the Shadow Creek Sharks (2-2, 1-0) on Friday, October 1 at 7:00 p.m. at Pearland ISD Stadium in a District 23-6A showdown as the Eagles seek to capture their third straight league crown.
