Dawson clobbers Clear Falls 47-7 in season opener

PEARLAND DAWSON — It was no secret that Dawson was ready to take command of the game from their very first possession against the Clear Falls Knights as they marched down the field to complete a six-play, 68-yard scoring drive capped off with a 2-yard run by Ja'Den Stewart with 8:51 left in the opening period. All-State kicker Carter Brown hit the PAT for a 7-0 lead.

After the ensuing kickoff, Dawson senior Blake Smith intercepted a pass and brought it back to the Knights 33. But Clear Falls got the ball back on an interception of their own.

The Eagles defense did their part with a huge sack back to the Clear Falls 7-yard line forcing a fourth down punt.

Dawson got excellent field position after a 16-yard punt giving the Eagles the ball at the Knights 23.

It took only five plays for the Eagles to find paydirt as QB James Kramer hit Hayden Curry on a 9-yard pass for the score. Carter nailed his second PAT with 2:30 left in the opening quarter for a 14-0 lead.

The Dawson defense got two more points as they got a safety making the score 16-0 with less than a minute left in the first period.

The Eagles would score one more time in the first half on a 3-yard plunge by Smith giving Dawson a 23-0 lead at intermission following Carter's PAT.

The second half belonged to the Eagles as they outscored the visitors 24-7 as Ruel Hampton, Robert Johnson, and Torrence Burgess all scored a touchdown. Brown added a 29-yard field goal.

Dawson finished the game by outgaining the visitors 366 yards to 244 yards.

Kramer was 9-of-19 passing for 172 yards and one TD.

Burgess led all ball carriers with 14 totes for 85 yards and one score. He also caught two passes for 59 yards.
