Dawson blasts South Houston 47-6

What is unusual is that Dawson only had the ball a total of 8:36 seconds compared to South Houston who had the ball 39:24 yet they scored only once in the second quarter while missing the extra point conversion attempt that was blocked and returned for two points for Dawson.
Meanwhile, Dawson took advantage of each time they had the ball to score two times in the first quarter and twice in the second period for a 30-6 lead at intermission.
The Eagles held the Trojans scoreless in the second half while scoring 17 more points in the second half to put SoHo away 47-9 to improve to 5-2 on the season and 4-1 in district to remain tied for second in district with Shadow Creek.
Dawson scored on their first possession of the game when QB Luke Brown hit WR Josiah McFarland on a 3-yard scoring toss in the first quarter. Kick Noah Abela booted the PAT for a 7-0 lead with 8:36 left in the frame.
McFarland intercepted a SoHo pass on their next possession to set up the Eagles' offense on the Dawson 23.
Dawson used 8-plays to drive 77 yards to score again as Brown fires a pass to WR Anthony Fournet who gathers in the ball at the Trojans 18 and scores on a 22-yard catch and run with 3:35 left in the opening quarter for a 14-0 advantage.
The Eagles defense forced SoHo to punt from their own 39 on their next possession in which Calvin Wesley caught the ball at his own 27 and proceeded to pick up great blocking through the SoHo cover team on his way to a 73-yard punt return for a touchdown. Abela hit the PAT and the Eagles were ahead 21-0 with 11:43 left in the second period.
South Houston would have their best offensive effort of the game as they drove 75 yards in 15 plays to score on a 3-yard touchdown. Dawson's Kaleb Burks blocks the PAT and recovers the ball and carries it to the end zone 99-yards to give the Eagles two points to make the score 23-6.
The Eagles added one more score before intermission when QB Zion Anderson scored on a 7-yard run. Abela hit the PAT for a 30-6 lead at halftime.
The second half belonged to Dawson as Wesley returns his second punt return for a 66-yard touchdown to open the third quarter to make the score 37-0 following the Abela PAT.
Abela added a 43-yard field goal in the third period to make the score 40-0 and the Eagles closed out the final period with a touchdown pass from QB Trevin Berrod to WR Jaden Williams covering 45-yards. The PAT was good and 47-6 final score was posted.
Brown was 6-of-10 passing for 69 yards and two touchdowns.
Anderson had three carries for 45 yards and one score.
Williams had one catch for 45 yards and a TD, Fournet had two grabs for 27 yards and one score, and McFarland had two catches for 23 yards and a TD.
Wesley lit up the crowd with two punt returns that covered 73 and 66 yards for touchdowns.
Dawson (5-2, 4-1) will host Sam Rayburn (4-2, 2-2) on Friday, October 17 at 7:00 p.m. at Pearland ISD Stadium.
