Murray leads Dawson to cross country title

PEARLAND — Junior Matthew Murray led the Dawson Eagles to the 2014 District 22-6A cross country championship with a winning time of 15:12.69 to finish ahead of Floyd Mendoza from Pasadena Memorial (16:12.22). 

The Dawson boys team averaged 16:27.48 per runner while scoring 47 points for first place.

Pasadena Memorial finished a close second with 51 points followed by South Houston (65), Manvel (104), Pearland (129), Sam Rayburn (180), Pasadena (189), Dobie (218), and Alvin (231).

Other Dawson runners included sophomore Zion Walker (4th - 16:26. 04), junior Corbin Owens (11th - 16:45.77), senior Cole Sheehan (15th - 16:55.01), sophomore Logan Powell (16th - 16:57. 85), freshman Kyle Stacks (17th - 16:58.41), and sophomore Noah Canales (29th - 18:02.65). 

Pearland finished fifth in the standings and they were led by senior Austin Akins (5th - 16:26.74) followed by senior Cory Mose (27th - 17:49.45), freshman Michael Clark (28th - 18:00.65), sophomore Parker Roy (31st - 18:09.47), and senior Grant Klemann (45th - 19:11.68).
