Dawson shuts out Alief Taylor 26-0

PEARLAND DAWSON — Dawson was a little slow coming out of the gate against Alief Taylor, but once they gathered a little momentum -- the Eagles tamed the Lions to a 26-0 win.

The Eagles remained undefeated in league play at 5-0 and 7-1 overall while locking up their place in the post-season. Dawson all but secured a share of the District 23-6A title. A win over Hastings and Elsik will give them sole possession of the league championship.

Both teams punted and turned the ball over on interceptions before the Eagles began their fourth possession of the first quarter on their own 47.

Two plays later, quarterback Myles Kitt-Denton found wide receiver Alex Boudreaux behind the Taylor defense for a 53-yard scoring bomb. Carter Brown booted the PAT for a 7-0 lead with 3:11 left in the opening stanza.

Dawson's David Fisher then intercepted a Taylor pass and returned it to the Lions 13. Kitt-Denton used his speed and elusiveness to scramble 13 yards for a touchdown and the Eagles were up 14-0 following the PAT by Brown with 1:31 left in the first quarter.

The two teams went back-and-forth in the second quarter until Dawson began a drive at their own 20.

Ja'Den Stewart took a handoff, found a huge hole in the Taylor defense, and then used a burst of speed to race 80-yards for a touchdown with 3:15 left before halftime. Brown nailed the PAT for a 21-0 lead.

Taylor took the ensuing kickoff to their 46, but Fisher stole his second pass of the game to give the Eagles the ball at the Dawson 20 where they ran out the clock for intermission.

The only scores in the second half came on a safety at the 8:32 mark of the third quarter for a 23-0 lead and then Brown shut the door at the 7:12 mark of the fourth quarter with a 27-yard field goal to make the final score 26-0. Brown now has 12 field goals on the year and he is 31-of-33 for extra points.

Kitt-Denton was 11-22 passing for 203 yards with one TD and one INT.

Stewart had 15 carries for 141 yards and one score.

Boudreaux had three catches for 83 yards and one TD while Jake Brinkman had two grabs for 61 yards.

Dawson will host their final home game of the regular season on Friday, November 1 at The Rig at 7:00 p.m. against Alief Hastings. The Eagles will play their final regular season game on Friday, November 8 at 7:00 p.m. at Crump Stadium against Alief Elsik.
