Dawson rolls over South Houston 56-7


PEARLAND — Dawson rolled up 622 yards of total offense and running back Saevion Johnson had 19 carries for 229 yards and scored four times to lead the Eagles to a 56-7 district win over the South Houston Trojans.

The Eagles have outscored the five Pasadena ISD schools 307-77 to sweep each team in the District 22-6A race. Dawson has lost three games to three state-ranked teams. The Eagles fell to No. 3 Class 5A state-ranked George Ranch, and in Class 6A, No. 6 Manvel, and No. 7 Pearland.

Dawson methodically took control of the game against South Houston taking a 21-0 lead into the dressing room at the half and they blowing out the Trojans 35-7 in the second half for the 56-7 win.

Johnson scored on runs of 14, 1, and 37 yards while also scoring on a 27-yard touchdown pass from QB Zach Smith.

Brailon Mouton scored on a 17-yard catch from Smith in the first half to go with Johnson two scores for the 21-0 lead.

It was all Dawson in the second half as Smith scored on an 8-yard keeper, Johnson score two more times, Jacoby Carr scored on a 7-yard run, and Peter Alba scored the final touchdown on a 48-yard dash.

Smith was 12-of-20 for 165 yards and two TDs while picking up 85 yards on the ground on 15 totes and another score.

Smith now has 1,838 yards passing and 29 touchdowns while rushing for 587 yards on 96 carries and nine more scores making him a duel threat entering the playoffs.

Johnson leads the team rushing with 1,386 yards on 163 carries with 17 TDs. He also has six catches for 86 yards and one score.

The team's leading receiver is Mouton with 40 catches for 625 yards and 14 TDs. Kaleb White has 26 catches for 460 yards and six scores while Drake Rainer has 33 grabs for 364 yards and four TDs.

The Eagles should be primed and ready for the post-season as they have never gone less than three games deep in the playoffs. They have an open date this week and then the new season will begin.
