Dawson, Burgess dismantles Alief Elsik 34-6

DAWSON — Dawson running back Bryce Burgess rushed for 237 yards on 14 carries and scored four touchdowns to lead the Eagles to a dominating 34-6 district win over Alief Elsik.

While Burgess was shining on offense, the Dawson defense was equally as stunning as they held the Rams to 66 total yards of offense including only 4-of-12 passing for six yards.

Meanwhile, the Dawson offense had a balanced attack with 290 yards rushing and 156 yards passing for a total of 446 yards. All-State placekicker also contributed two field goals of 42 and 28-yards plus 3-of-4 PATs.

"Proud of the kids and coaches," said Dawson head coach Mike Allison. "It would have been easy to get distracted since it was a short week with the Thursday game, but everyone stayed focused."

The only negative for the Eagles was losing four fumbles that could have cost them points on the scoreboard that they really didn't need. But with the upcoming game against district cousin Pearland, the Eagles can't afford turnovers against the Oilers.

"It was a successful night in all three aspects of the game, but we did make some mistakes," said Allison. "Those mistakes will be things that we must work on moving forward. We have to continue to focus on us and getting better every day."

The Eagles jumped on the Rams in the opening quarter as Burgess scored three times on runs of 3, 72, and 46 yards while Brown hit three PATs for a 21-0 lead.

As it would turn out, that's all the points the Eagles would need to improve to 7-2 overall and 5-1 in the league standings.

Elsik would finally score on a 5-yard run by Adyan Brown while missing the extra point to narrow the score to 21-6 with 3:02 left in the second quarter.

Brown would boot his first field goal covering 42-yards as the first half came to an end giving the Eagles a 24-6 lead at intermission.

The Eagles added 10 more points in the third quarter as Burgess scored a fourth time on a sensational 56-yard scoring jaunt while Brown added a 28-yard field goal to post the 34-6 final score.

Johnson hit 10-of-18 passing for 156 yards.

Ashton Stroman had four catches for 80 yards while Ryan Guillo had two grabs for 45 yards.

Dawson and Pearland will face one another in the annual PearBowl on Thursday, November 4 at 7:00 p.m. at Pearland ISD Stadium. The Eagles have won the last four out of five games.
