Dawson sweeps North Shore in first round

PEARLAND — The Dawson Lady Eagles faced the North Shore Lady Mustangs in the opening round debut of the Class 6A Region III volleyball playoffs and came away with a three-game sweep 25-23, 25-8, 25-16 in the bi-district match-up.

Dawson, the No. 3 seed from District 22-6A, defeated the Lady Mustangs, the No. 2 seed from District 21-6A. The Lady Eagles improve to 26-14 on the season and will face the No. 3 state-ranked Clear Creek Lady Wildcats in the area round. Clear Creek won the District 24-6A volleyball crown.

The first game between Dawson and North Shore was very competitive. With the score tied 21-21, Dawson made their move and pulled out the game 25-21 with four straight points for a 1-0 lead.

The second game was never in doubt. After the Lady Eagles were down 5-4 early, the went on a run 21-3 run to take a lopsided 25-8 victory and a 2-0 advantage.

In the third game, the two teams started out close with Dawson taking a 5-4 lead, but then the Lady Eagles outscored North Shore 20-12 for the 25-16 sweep.

North Shore trailed only 12-10 in the third game but Dawson used a solid passing offense with several kills to get the victory.
