Dawson tramples Alvin 42-7

PEARLAND DAWSON — The undefeated Dawson Eagles faced the winless Alvin Yellowjackets at Alvin Memorial Stadium and returned home with a solid 42-7 district win to improve to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in league action.

The Eagles are looking to defend their league title and so far they are on schedule to do so this season.

Dawson scored a pair of touchdowns in the first three quarters to build a 42-0 lead before Alvin finally got on the scoreboard in the final frame to make the final score 42-7.

Dawson sophomore QB Colin Johnson, who has shown marked improvement in every game after senior QB James Kramer went down with a season-ending injury, scored the first touchdown on a 6-yard keeper. Carter Brown booted the PAT for the 7-0 lead.

The Eagles scored again when senior RB Torrence Burgess got loose on a 54-yard scoring pass from Johnson to make the score 14-0 in the first period following the PAT by Brown.

Senior RB Ja'Den Stewart caught a pass and turned into a 30-yard score to the end zone. Brown tacked on the PAT for a 21-0 advantage.

The Eagles complete the first half scoring when Johnson hit David Fisher on a 10-yard scoring toss. Brown nails the PAT for the 28-0 lead at intermission.

It was more of the same in the third quarter when Ja'Den Stewart tosses a pass to Hayden Curry on a 2-yard scoring pass. Brown hits the PAT for a 35-0 lead.

The final Eagle score came in the third period when Robert Johnson jumps over the middle of the line for a one-yard score. Brown hits his final PAT making the score 42-0.

Alvin scored in the fourth quarter on a 2-yard dive making the final score 42-7.

Johnson was perfect hitting 11-of-11 passes for 194 yards and three touchdowns.

Robert Johnson led the Eagles with five carries for 54 yards and a TD. Burgess had five totes for 43 yards.

Burgess had two catches for 77 yards and one score. Stewart had two catches for 42 yards and a TD. Curry had three grabs for 34 yards and a score.

Dawson will host Alief Elsik on Friday, November 13 at Pearland ISD Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
