Dawson thrashes Alief Elsik 65-7

PEARLAND DAWSON — There really wasn't any concern regarding the outcome of the game between Dawson and Alief Elsik. It was just a matter of how much.

After the Eagles flew past the Rams 65-7, their immediate attention began to focus on their upcoming showdown with the Shadow Creek Sharks that will determine the 2020 District 23-6A champion.

Dawson will travel to Freedom Field to square off against the Sharks on Friday, November 20 at 7:00 p.m. The Eagles won the 23-6A crown last year and Shadow Creek won the Class 5A Div. I state title before being moved up this year to compete at the 6A level.

Shadow Creek is coming off a 20-6 win over the Pearland Oilers last week.

Against Alief Elsik, the Eagles built a 45-0 halftime lead while running and passing without much opposition.

Dawson finished with 330 yards rushing and 124 yards passing while closing out the second half 20-7 to make the final score 65-7.

Senior RB Ja'Den Stewart scored three times on runs of 1, 2, and 28 yards. Senior RB Torrance Burgess scored on a 16-yard run. Freshman RB Bryce Burgess scored on a 4-yard run. Senior RB Robert Johnson scored on runs of 1 and 4-yards and senior RB Cole Sebok scored on a 3-yard plunge.

Bryce Burgess led all rushers with 11 carries for 108 yards while Stewart had eight totes for 84 yards and Torrance Burgess had five carries for 67 yards. Johnson added 44 yards on 11 carries.

Sophomore QB Colin Johnson was 6-for-10 passing for 124 yards.

Senior WR Hayden Curry had two catches for 31 yards while senior WR Raynard Allen had one grab for 31 yards. Stewart had one catch for 29 yards, junior WR Ashton Stroman had one grab for 17 yards and Torrence Burgess had one catch for 16 yards.

Senior DB Blake Smith excited the crowd with a 62-yard punt return for a touchdown.

Junior placekicker Carter Brown hit 8-of-9 extra points while booting a 27-yard field goal for a total of 11 points.
