Dawson's Carter Brown named to AP & MaxPreps All-State team

PEARLAND DAWSON — Dawson sophomore placekicker Carter Brown had a phenomenal season and he will only get better over the next two years of his high school career.

Brown was recently named as a placekicker to the first-team Associated Press All-State team and he was also honored by MaxPreps as a first-team selection.

The young kicker put up some incredible numbers this season for the Eagles who finished 10-2 overall and a trip to the post-season for the 2019 football campaign. He was the team's leading scorer with 93 points.

"Carter has become a weapon for the FAMILY," Dawson head coach Mike Allison said. "When you are talking about offensive help, his field goal range has allowed us to keep our playbook open once we get to the 35.

"We are confident that he can make a long field goal, so we don’t have to narrow the offensive plays down to either be conservative or to take a shot."

Brown has given Allison and his team that added weapon that very few high school teams have and the Eagles will have the luxury of his services for the next two years.

Carter hit 48-of-51 extra points while nailing 14-of-15 field goals including six field goals that traveled over 40 yards. He set a new Dawson school record with a 49-yarder.

"I have a lot of confidence in Carter," Allison said. " I will usually talk to him before the game to see what he feels like his range is for the night.

"He has been honest with how he feels, and so far, has been on point with what he has told me. I haven’t hesitated yet."

When a high school coach has a weapon like Brown, then the coach will not hesitate to use his kicker during a game -- especially when the game is very close and a field goal could mean the difference in a win or loss.

MaxPreps also saw the value of Brown by naming him a first-team kicker on their 6A state-wide team.

Brown has also been named the No. 1 kicker of the Class of 2022 by the Chris Sailer Kicking School.

Sailer is an American football trainer of kicking specialists. He works with high school placekickers and punters and evaluates them for college football programs. Sailer was named an All-American as both a kicker and a punter while playing college football for the UCLA Bruins.

Brown was also named as one of three finalist for the 2019 Chris Sailer Award for the top kicker in the nation. Brown is a finalist with California's Cole Becker (Class of 2021) and Georgia's Jude Kelley (Class of 2020).

Other accomplishments by Brown include:
