PEARLAND — The Dawson Lady Eagles turned in a sterling performance at the Clear Springs Track Invitational by running away with the team trophy against some very good track teams in Class 5A and 4A. There were 24 teams that competed at the meet.
When the final race was finished, the Lady Eagles scored 118 points to finish ahead of the host team Clear Springs who finished second with 70 points. Pearland finished third with 65 points followed by Clear Lake (61), Lamar Consolidated (44), Eisenhower (42), Manvel (31), Clear Brook (30), Port Arthur Memorial (27), Dickinson (22), Dulles (20), Deer Park (12), Brazosport (12), Brazoswood (10), South Houston (10), Angleton (9), Dobie (9),
Baytown Lee (8), Channelview (6), Alvin (4), Clear Falls (4), Clear Creek (3), Friendswood (2), and Pasadena Memorial (1).
Karina Turner won the 100 high hurdles in 15.44 while teammate Jazmyn Jones placed third (16.13).
The 800-meter relay quartet of Jones, Brittany Williams-White, Erica Davis, and Cybil Obiozor took first place.
Brook Wilson won a gold medal in the 300 intermediate hurdles with a winning time of 45.08 while teammate Karina Turner placed third (45.08).
Porsha Thomas won the long jump with a leap of 18-4 while Obiozor placed fourth (17-8).
Jennifer Blair won the pole vault (11-0).
The 400-meter relay team of Wilson, Williams-White, Jones, and Davis placed second with a time of 47.71.
The 1600-meter relay foursome of Kayla Jamerson, Wilson, Turner, and Alexus Morrow placed third in 4:02.
Mary Luster placed third in the 3200 meters (12:13).
Jamerson placed fifth in the 400 meters (60.59).
Obiozor placed third in the triple jump (35-8.5).
Karina Turner was the high scorer for Dawson with 19 points followed by Brooke Wilson (17), Cybil Obiozor (15), Jazmyn Jones (15), Porsha Thomas (10), and Jennifer Blair (10).
