Dawson diamondmen begin second round of league action

PEARLAND — The Dawson Eagles closed out the opening round of district play with a 6-1 mark, but began the second round with a 4-2 loss to Santa Fe.

Head coach Kerry Cox is pleased with the strong season the Eagles have produced thus far, but injuries have recently hit his team.

Senior Sam Boake, who is Dawson's top pitcher and clean-up hitter suffered a knee injury sliding into second base against Galena Park. He may be out a couple of weeks.

Dawson's No. 2 pitcher Tony Carrillo has been out for a little over two weeks with soreness in his shoulder.

Against Santa Fe, Dawson pitcher Drake Rainer pitched an excellent game allowing only four hits, but the Indians used those hits in a timely fashion to take advantage of their limited opportunities to produce four runs.

Carlos Amaya had a double for Dawson while Blake Toler and Jordan each had a single. Jonathan Cater added two singles with Smith and Carter producing an RBI apiece.

Dawson beat Texas City 8-5 to improve to 7-2 in district.
