Winnegan advances to state track meet with regional victory

PEARLAND — Junior Brett Winnegan won the 4A Region III long jump with a leap of 24'6" which will send him to the 4A state track meet at Michale A. Myers Stadium in Austin on the University of Texas campus.

Winnegan has the top jump headed into the state meet and he is looking to bring home the gold medal in his event. Winnegan will jump on Friday, May 9 at 10:30 a.m.

No other Dawson trackster qualified for the state meet. Here is how the rest of the team finished at the regional meet.

400 meter relay - 4th place - Karl Vedan, Brett Winnegan, Bryce Johnson and Mykul Mitchel.

800 meter relay - 4th - place - Karl Vedan, Brett Winnegan, Jordan Wilson, and James Rhodes

1600 meter relay - 7th place - James Rhodes, Kameron Hypolite, Collin Wilks and Lindsey Taylor

3200 meters - Matthew Murray (3rd place)

1600 meters - Mathew Murry (6th place)

Shot put - Braxton Kelly (6th place)

Discus - Osby Mitchell did not place

800 meters - Justus Ross did not place
