Dawson takes out South Houston in extra innings

PEARLAND — It appeared that the Dawson Eagles would get a 3-0 shutout win over South Houston in the final district contest of the regular season, but the Trojans scored three runs in the top of the seventh to force extra innings.

Chris Jefferson doubled home Blake Toler with the winning run in the ninth inning to give Dawson a 4-3 victory that secures the No. 3 seed for the Eagles in the upcoming playoffs.

Jefferson also picked up the win in relief, pitching three innings, allowing no earned runs while striking out five. He also had the hot bat going 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and two RBIs.

Tristan Perez went 2-for-3 for Dawson as part of the Eagles’ 11-hit attack.

Dawson (16-10, 11-5) will finish third in the league race behind Alvin and Pearland while Pasadena Dobie has locked up the fourth spot.

Adrian Rodriguez pitched six strong innings for the Eagles, striking out seven, before Jefferson took over the mound.
