Dawson diamondmen eliminate Baytown Sterling

PEARLAND — Dawson scored twice each in the fifth and sixth innings to rally for a 5-3 win over Baytown Sterling in the first game of a best-of-three series played at Dawson High School.

Dawson trailed 3-1 after four innings before staging its rally.

Tristan Perez, Chris Jefferson and Zach Smith each drove in runs for the Eagles.

Jefferson had two of Dawson’s six hits.

Walker Clayton pitched six effective innings for the Eagles, fanning one, while Jefferson pitched the final inning.

The Eagles lost Game 2 by the score of 2-1 sending the series to a deciding Game 3. Dawson bounced back strong to defeat Baytown Sterling, 11-0, for a series-clinching playoff win.

Dawson scored four runs in the top of the second, one in the third, and added three runs in the fifth and seventh frames to get the 11-0 victory in convincing fashion.

Adam Houghtaling picked up the win for the Eagles on the mound as he allowed only seven hits, no runs, no walks while fanning seven.

Leading hitters included Chris Jefferson who was 1-for-2 with one run scored and three RBIs including a double. Tristan Perez was 1-for-2 with two runs scored and one RBI. Zach Smith was 3-for-4 with one run scored. Alex Martinez was 2-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI. Jared Kirk was 1-for-2 with two runs scored and one RBI. Jaedon Compton scored one run and brought home two RBIs.

Game 1 will be Thursday, May 12 at Dawson High School at 7:30 p.m.

Game 2 will be Friday, May 13 at Clear Creek High School at 7:30 p.m.

Game 3 (if needed) will be Saturday, May 14 at Friendswood High School at 1:00 p.m.
