PEARLAND — The Dawson Eagles hosted their season home opener which was also their homecoming celebration and everyone from Dawson left victorious as the Eagles slammed Baytown Sterling 52-14 at The Rig.
Dawson (3-0) exploded for more than 500 yards of offense while the defense limited the Rangers to only 196 yards and six first downs.
Senior tailback Xavier Brown scored three touchdowns and rushed for 157 yards on just 14 carries to average 11.2 yards a tote.
The Eagles scored on their first five drives and led 31-0 before Baytown Sterling scored its only touchdown in the first half.
Utah-bound quarterback Darian Lazard added a score in the first half as did Akeem Blackshire and Stuart Watkins on a 34-yard field goal. Brown scored twice in the first half making the score 38-7.
Lazard hit 14-of-25 passing for 186 yards and one score. Randall Weeks had five catches for 67 yards. Piaget Gauthier had four catches for 31 yards. Marcus Vaughn had a couple of catches including a 40-yard touchdown on the final play of the first half.
The quick and aggressive offensive line of Max Brown, Tyler Freeze, Jarrett Hill, Aaron Davis, and Derrick Axtell dominated the game in the trenches that opened up gapping running lanes to post 381 yards on the ground and 186 yards through the air.
Dawson (3-0) will host Manvel on Friday, September 25 at 7:00 p.m. at The Rig as it opens District 24-4A play with a perfect record.
