Dawson takes out Cy-Falls 34-10

PEARLAND DAWSON — The Dawson Eagles improved their season record to 2-0 after posting a 34-10 win over the Cy-Falls Golden Eagles.

Senior QB James Kramer led the way hitting 12-of-17 passes for 154 yards and two touchdowns while senior running back Torrence Burgess had 10 carries for 74 yards and one score. Senior running back Ja'Den Stewart added 15 totes for 65 yards and one TD while Ruel Hampton tacked on 47 yards on 10 carries and a score.

Cy-Falls got on the score board first with a 20-yard field goal by Jorge Gonzales with 2:53 left in the opening quarter for a 3-0 lead.

The Eagles scored on a 3-yard run by Ja'Den Stewart followed by the PAT by Carter Brown for a 7-3 lead with 10:36 left in the second period.

With 2:11 left before halftime, Kramer and wide receiver Ashton Stroman hooked up for a 53-yard scoring pass. The PAT was blocked leaving the Eagles ahead at intermission 13-3.

Dawson scored 21 unanswered points in the second half as running back Torrence Burgess crossed the goal line on a 1-yard run with 9:05 left in the third frame. Carter hit the PAT for a 20-3 advantage.

The Eagles scored again late in the third when Kramer found Eli Webster open for a 29-yard scoring toss. Carter hit the extra point for a 27-3 lead with 2:02 left in the third.

The final score for Dawson came early in the fourth quarter when Ruel Hampton scored on a 4-yard plunge followed by a Carter PAT to increase the margin to 34-3.

Cy-Falls managed a final score with 4:15 left in the game when Justin Bingham caught a 6-yard scoring pass from Caleb Pollard to post the 34-10 final score.

Dawson will host the Alief Hastings Bears on Friday, October 9 at 7:00 p.m. at Pearland ISD Stadium in the District 23-6A opener for both teams. The Eagles are the defending 23-6A champions.
