Dawson Eagles

PEARLAND — For the past six years, the Dawson Eagles have dominated the district as they have either shared or won outright the league championship under the direction of head coach Mark Barre.

Last season, they finished 27-8 and shared the title with the Pearland Oilers. The Eagles advanced in the playoffs and made it to the 6A Region III quarterfinals.

The Eagles took a hit to graduation from last year so they have a relatively young team. Barre predicts that Alief Taylor should be considered as the favorite to capture the 23-6A title with Pearland, Dawson, and Alief Elsik as the playoff contenders.

Kyle Matthews and Kris Dixon are the returning starters for the Eagles this season and Barre is depending on them to step up as leaders for the other team members. Andrew Eberhardt and Josh Lewis will also be looked upon to contribute to the team in a big way.

"I think that one of our strengths so far this season is the ability to shoot the ball," Barre said. "But we need to develop some mental defensive toughness as the season progress before we get into district action."
