Barre, Dixon, Matthews headline All-District 23-6A teams


PEARLAND — It came as no surprise that Dawson head coach Mark Barre would be named 23-6A "Coach of the Year." Dawson has either shared or won the league title outright over the past consecutive seven years.

Barre has been at the helm of the Dawson basketball program since the school opened and he has amassed a sparkling 237-111 overall record while making the post-season the past nine straight years. Dawson finished 20-15 overall and 9-3 in district this season.

Dawson senior Kris Dixon was named as the MVP of the district. Dixon averaged 18.3 points per game while garnering 165 total points. He had 50 rebounds with 12 steals and 12 assists.

Senior Kyle Matthews was named as the Offensive MVP after he averaged 10.4 points per game with 94 total points. Matthews had 71 rebounds with 12 steals and 43 assists.

Senior Andrew Eberhardt, senior Josh Lewis, and junior Lorenzo Waddy were named to the All-District first-team.

Eberhardt averaged 11.3 points per game while getting 15 rebounds, five steals, and 14 assists. Eberhardt hit 29-of-53 3-pointers to lead the Eagles.

Lewis averaged 12.0 points per game with 108 total points, 26 rebounds, nine steals, and 34 assists.

Waddy averaged 8.3 points per game with 74 rebounds, three steals, and seven assists.

The Pearland Oilers had two players named to the first-team. They were junior Javonne Lowery and senior Ovidio Perez.

Lowery averaged 14.2 points per game while hitting 43-of-133 three-pointers. Lowery had 166 rebounds, 13 blocked shots, 44 steals, and 54 assists.

Perez averaged 12.1 points per game with 169 rebounds, four blocked shots, 57 steals, and 69 assists.

Junior Javarious Washington and senior Kevin Shead were named to the All-District second-team.
