PEARLAND — One of the largest track meets in the state was held at Dawson High School last week. The event is called the Dawson Lawnchair Invitational because there isn't enough seating so spectators are encouraged to bring their lawnchairs to watch the track meet.
There were over 30 teams at the meet and the Lady Eagles finished second with 71 points while North Shore captured the title with 82 points. Clear Springs finished third with 66 points while Barbers Hill (38), FB Marshall (30), and Wheatly (30) rounded out the top six teams.
Dawson had two girls who won gold medals.
Miranda Thornhill won the 800 meters with a time of 2:20 while Taylar Prier took first place in the long jump with a leap of 18'4".
Abbie Harrelson placed second in the 1600 meters (5:22) and third in the 3200 meters (11:55).
The 400 relay of Theresa Davis, Cydney Boudreaux, Kimble, and Erica Davis took second place with a time of 47.67.
The 1600 relay quartet of Theresa Davis, Erica Davis, Briana Alba, and Paige Kimble placed third in 4:01.
Tara Sonson was fourth in the shot put (37'4").
Jemira Thomlinson was fourth in the discus (127'3").
Kimble was sixth in the 400 meters (58.84).
