Dawson sweeps Elsik and Taylor


PEARLAND — The Alief schools are having a very tough time competing against the other four teams in District 23-6A.

So far, Pearland has beaten the three Alief schools by a total of 45-0 while Dawson has beaten Elsik and Taylor by a combined score of 26-0 last week.

Freshman Adeline Cox took the pitching circle against Elsik and got the win after throwing five innings, giving up no runs, one hit, five strikeouts, and walking one.

Offensively, the Lady Eagles banged out 13 hits for 14 runs to get the district win and improve to 2-2 in league play.

Allegra Trevino was 4-for-4 at the plate with a triple, two singles, and a double including three runs scored and three RBIs.

Dawson scored a run in the first, two in the second, six in the third, one in the fourth, and four in the fifth for the 14-0 shutout.

Others who collected multiple hits were Gabrielle Chacon, Amanda DeLuna, Sydney Franco, and Rachel Gano.


Dawson 12 - Alief Taylor 0

Sophomore pitcher Courtney Day tossed a no-hit shutout at the Alief Taylor Lady Lions while the Lady Eagles scored 12 unanswered runs to pick up another league win to improve to 3-2 on the season.

Amber Langston led the Dawson offense as she went 2-for-3 at the plate. Langston drove in four runs on a double in the third and a fielder's choice in the fourth.

Meanwhile, Day was in charge in the pitching circle as she tossed five innings, surrendering no runs and no hits while fanning 12 batters and walking one.

Dawson had 10 hits as Alexis Zarate, Peyton Ellermann, Day, and Langston each collected multiple hits.
