Friendswood beats Brazoswood, Clear Springs

FRIENDSWOOD — Friendswood rebounded from their district opening loss to Clear Falls by knocking off Brazoswood 57-54 and Clear Springs 59-50 to improve to 2-1 in league play and are proving they can make the adjustment in competing for the first time in Class 6A.

The game against Brazoswood was a back-and-forth affair with Friendswood getting the close win.

Friendswood got an 18-13 first quarter lead and took the second frame 13-12 for a 31-25 lead at intermission.

But the Buccaneers battled back taking the third quarter 16-13 to close the gap to 44-41 entering the fourth quarter.

Friendswood matched points with the Bucs 13-13 to hold on for the 57-54 win. Some late key free throws proved to be the difference down the stretch.

Adam Hinchcliffe led the Mustangs with 16 points while Jacob Kryska added 12 points and Brandon Phelps had 10 points.

Friendswood 59 - Clear Springs 50

Friendswood beat Clear Springs 59-50 to remain in second place in the district standings.

The Chargers took the first quarter 13-11, but the Stangs battled back to take the second period 18-6 for a 29-19 halftime lead.
     Clear Springs tried to come back with a 17-15 third quarter, but Friendswood held on for a 15-14 fourth quarter and the 59-50 win.
     Adam Hinchcliffe was the leading scorer with 20 points while Jacob Kryska tossed in 11 and Joseph Petri had 10.
