Friendswood splits district games

FRIENDSWOOD — The Friendswood Mustangs faced one of the state's top ranked teams in the Clear Lake Falcons (22-1, 6-0) and returned home with a 63-41 loss.

To make matters worse, the Mustangs were without three regular starters due to injuries or illness. Seniors Adam Hinchcliffe, Jacob Kryska, and Kyle Ranostaj were all missing and it showed.

Clear Lake jumped on the Mustangs offensively while building a 17-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and 18-9 in the second period for a lopsided 35-13 halftime lead.

The second half was a little closer as Lake head coach Tommy Penders played a lot of his reserves.

Clear Lake won the third quarter 18-15 while the Mustangs edged the Falcons 13-10 in the final frame.

Friendswood 52 - Clear Brook 44

Friendswood got a much needed win over cross-town rival Clear Brook 52-44.

The Mustangs welcomed back Adam Hinchcliffe who scored 10 points while Brandon Phelps led the Mustangs with 19.

Clear Brook led 9-7 after the opening quarter, but a stifling defensive effort by Friendswood blanked the Wolverines 12-0 in the second period for a 21-7 lead at intermission.

Brook found their offense in the third quarter taking the Mustangs 18-11 to close the gap to 32-25.

But Friendswood caught on fire to take the final period 22-17 and keep Clear Brook winless in district play.
