Friendswood swimmers place second at 24-6A meet


FRIENDSWOOD — Friendswood continues to produce outstanding swim teams and that's what they did at this year's District 24-6A meet.

Friendswood head coach John Little has done a tremendous job developing one of the top swim programs in the Houston area year-after-year. Little was so honored as he was named District 24-6A Boys "Coach of the Year."

Friendswood diving coach Steven Haffelder was also honored as the District Girls Diving "Coach of the Year."

Haffelder saw Friendswood divers Gabriel Costa captured the diving silver medal in the boys competition and Lily Ellis win the gold medal in the girls competition.

The Mustang boys finished second at the district meet with 146 points while Clear Falls won the league title with 158.5 points. Finishing behind the Mustangs in third was Clear Creek with 94 points followed by Clear Lake (71.5), Clear Springs (29), Clear Brook (23), Alvin (22), and Dickinson (8).

The Lady Mustangs finished second with 100 points while Clear Creek captured the district crown with 150 points. Clear Falls finished third with 97 points followed by Clear Lake (71), Clear Springs (66), Alvin (32), Clear Brook (16), and Dickinson (14).

The Friendswood girls foursome of Allison Proulx, Anna McHenry, Olivia Theall, and Allie Hansen won the gold medal in the 200-Yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:50.45.

The Friendswood boys quartet of Max Hardt, Peyton Davis, Josh Haffelder, and Thomas McHenry also won gold in the 200-Yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:36.88.

Olivia Theall was a double gold medal winner as she won the 200-yard Individual Medley in 2:06.67 and the 100-yard Butterfly in 54.82.

Lily Ellis won the gold in the 1-meter diving with 397.50 points.

Josh Haffelder won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:53.60.

Max Hardt placed second in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:54.80 and he placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke in 58.39.

Thomas McHenry placed second in the 50-yard freestyle (21.24) and placed third in the 100-yard freestyle (48.08).

Gabriel Costa placed second in the 1-meter diving with 370.85 points.

Allie Hansen placed second in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:26.85.

Allison Proulx placed third in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:01.77.

Joey Alfonso placed third in the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.22) and third in the 100-yard freestyle (55.37).

The Friendswood girls 400-yard Freestyle Relay team of Mady Blok, Allie Hansen, Olivia Theall, and Allison Proulx placed second with a time of 3:40.09.

The Friendswood boys 400-yard Freestyle Relay foursome of Joey Alfonso, Max Hardt, Josh Haffelder, and Thomas McHenry placed third in 3:14.82.

The qualifiers will advance to the Class 6A Region III meet with hopes to qualify for the state swim meet in Austin at the University of Texas Swim Center.
