Area swimmers compete at state swim meet

AUSTIN — The Pearland girls scored 49 points at the Class 6A state swim meet held at the Lee and Joe Jamail Swim Center on the University of Texas campus in Austin leaving them in 16th place in the state.

The Friendswood girls scored 41 points which was good enough for 21st place in the state.

The Friendswood boys scored 33.5 points which left them in 20th place in the state.

The lone Dawson girl who qualified at the state meet finished with 18 points which left Dawson in 30th place.

Pearland's Jaden Bellina was the only area swimmer who metaled. The junior won the gold medal in the 200-yard IM for the second straight year with a time of 1:59.81 and she also claimed the bronze medal for the second straight year in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 54.47.

Bellina is the only Pearland girl who has been crowned a state champion and now she has two gold medals and two bronze medals with one more year to return next year to possibly become a three-time state champion.

Pearland girls did qualify in the 200-yard Medley Relay finishing 16th as the quartet of McKenzie Eaker, Madyson Morse, Catherine Dominick, and Kara Decker posted of time of 1:56.44 in the finals.

Morse, who is only a freshman, also placed 15th in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:06.88.

Friendswood girls gave a good effort as the foursome of Katie Kosinski, Sydney Gurry, Gina Fossati, and Sadie Wilson placed 11th in the 200-yard Medley Relay in 1:49.77.

The quartet of Gurry, Fossati, Wilson, and Kosinski place 12th in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay (1:39.29).

Kosinski placed ninth in the 50-yard Free Style (24.22) and 10th in the 100-yard Freestyle (52.31).

Gurry placed 14th in the 100-yard Breaststroke in 1:06.34.

The Friendswood boys also gave a good effort as the foursome of James Tomerlin, Nico Monroig, Daniel Theall, and Mark Theall placed 10th in the 200-yard Medley Relay (1:36.01).

Mark Theall placed 15th in the 200-yard Freestyle (1:43.37), and 13th in the 100-yard Butterfly (50.96)

Tomerlin tied for 14th place in the 100-yard Backstroke (52.62).

Dawson sophomore Jennifer Yu place seventh in the 50-yard Freestyle (24.09) and 11th in the 100-yard Backstroke (57.53).
