FRIENDSWOOD — It is an always exciting when student-athletes receive local recognition, but it is extremely special when those athletes are honored at a state-wide level and that is exactly what happened when the Texas Sports Writers Association revealed their 2017 Class 6A All-State football teams.
Friendswood senior linebacker Jake Yurachek was selected to the first-team defensive unit and senior tight end Ben Redding was named to the second-team offense.
The Colorado commit Yurachek recorded 174 tackles with 67 solo stops. He also had 42 tackles for loss, five sacks, five caused fumbles, one interception, and one blocked kick. He was named District 24-6A MVP and was selected to the Chronicle All-Greater Houston squad.
The 6-4 SMU commit Redding had 54 receptions for 744 yards for nine touchdowns as one of the most sure-handed members of the Friendswood receiving corps.
Both players helped the Mustangs to a 9-4 overall season record while advancing three rounds in the post-season.
