Lady Mustangs rip GC Memorial 15-0

FRIENDSWOOD — Friendswood girls closed out the suspended softball season due to the Coronavirus on a positive note.

The Lady Mustangs are 3-0 in District 22-5A and are tied with Santa Fe (3-0). The two teams were set to face one another just prior to the suspension.

Now the biggest question will be when the delay will end as the situation is very serious and deserves everyone's attention.

“It’s super-frustrating,” Friendswood head coach Christa Yates said. “The lack of knowledge around it kind of leaves everybody in limbo. You control what you can and prepare as if you’re playing.

“Whatever happens, I get it. It’s serious and it’s a tough situation.”

The game against GC Memorial was lopsided as Friendswood blanked the Lady Patriots 15-0 in five innings.

Friendswood got things started with a pair of runs in the first frame thanks to two opening singles by Tricia Yarotsky and KK Esparza.

After a double steal, Maddie Wilson got an RBI bunt single and Esparza scored on a passed ball.

The Lady Stangs added three more runs in the second when Reagan Jones walked, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Chloe Riassetto and scored on an error. Amani Adi walked and moved to third on a double by Yarotsky before scoring on an RBI groundout by Esparza.

There was an explosion of runs in the third as Friendswood crossed the plate nine times to jump the score to 14-0.

One more run was scored in the top of the fifth to put the nail in the coffin for GC Memorial.

Riassetto got the win in the pitching circle as she struck out 13 of the 15 batters she faced.
