Lady Mustangs improve to 4-1 in district action

FRIENDSWOOD — The Friendswood Lady Mustangs improved their district record to 4-1 with an 11-1 win over Goose Creek Memorial and a 5-2 win over La Porte who entered the league contest with a 3-0 mark.

The Lady Mustangs crossed the plate in every inning except the fourth against GC Memorial before the game came to an end due to the 10-run mercy rule in the sixth frame.

A sacrifice bunt by Baileigh Burtis scored the first run for Friendswood in the opening inning.

The Lady Mustangs notched four runs in the second inning which led by Maddie Wilson, Chloe Riassetto, and Tricia Yarotsky, all driving in runs to make the score 5-0.

Friendswood added a run in the third, two runs in the fifth, and three runs in the top of the sixth.

Friendswood tallied two home runs as Janelle Wilson went for the long ball in the fifth inning and Yarotsky had a home run in the second inning.

The Lady Mustangs tallied ten hits on the day as Yarotsky and Wilson each collected two hits to lead Friendswood.

Friendswood 5 - La Porte 2

Friendswood managed only four hits off La Porte pitching, but they made the most of it as the Lady Mustangs came away with a 5-2 district win.

The Lady Mustangs took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a La Porte passed ball.

Friendswood scored three runs in the fourth inning as they took advantage of two walks and a hit-by-pitch that loaded the bases with two outs.

That set up a two-run double to left-centerfield by Chloe Riassetto that scored Caylynn and Lauren Adams.

Maddie Wilson would later score on a misplayed fielder's choice to make the score 4-0.

Friendswood added another run with two outs when Janelle Wilson stroked a run-scoring single that scored Tricia Yarotsky who led off the frame with a line-drive double.

Riassetto, who finished with two doubles and two RBIs at the plate, also had an outstanding game in the pitching circle as she struck out six, walked none while allowing six singles.

"Chloe, just amazing. We had some great defensive plays and she made some great defensive plays too," said Friendswood head coach Christa Williams-Yates. "It was all around a good team effort."
