Lockhart leads Friendswood past Brazoswood and Clear Springs


FRIENDSWOOD — Lael Lockhart pitched a one-hitter in a 2-1 victory over Brazoswood and they used his bat to hit a pair of singles and also smacking a double for three RBIs in a 6-1 district win over Clear Springs.

The Mustangs scored three times in the first inning and never looked back.

Clear Springs’ only run came on a Drew Minter home run.

Jacob Crain pitched five strong innings in relief for the Mustangs, striking out four.

Rylan Kaufman started and pitched effectively for two innings for FHS against the Chargers.

Joseph Ehrlich drove in a run that gave Friendswood a 5-0 lead in the second inning.

Lockhart and Connor Whitaker belted back-to-back doubles in the seventh inning for Friendswood’s final run.

Friendswood is now 2-1 in district just one game behind league-leader Clear Creek.

Behind Lael Lockhart’s complete game shutout (seven innings pitched, one hit, three strikeouts, two walks) the Friendswood Mustangs had a bounce-back district win over the Brazoswood Bucs.

Ryan Bertelsman and Kevin Dupuis achieved the Mustangs’ two run-scoring hits. Lockhart also collected a hit for Friendswood.
