Friendswood splits with Clear Falls in district double-header


FRIENDSWOOD — The Friendswood Mustangs blew out the Clear Falls Knights 15-3 and then lost the second-game of the double-header 2-0 in a pitcher's duel.

In the first game, Friendswood pounded out 16 hits for 15 runs against Clear Falls pitching ace Braydon Fisher to pick up the win.

"It's been a long time since we put all three phases of the game together," Friendswood head coach Steve Hecker said. "(Bradley) Wilcott did a good job of throwing strikes and battled out of that first inning.

Friendswood managed to get six hits off Fisher, who also hit four batters as he struggled to find the strike zone.

Clear Falls led 2-0 after the first, but Friendswood scored once in the second inning, three times in the third, five times in the fifth and finished the deal with a six-run sixth to get the 15-3 district win.

Bradley Willcott got the win for Friendswood as he allowed six hits and three runs over five innings, striking out four. Ryan Vera threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Top hitters for the Mustangs included: Calvin Whitaker (3-for-5, 2 runs, 2 RBIs) that included a double. Izaac Pacheco (2-for-4, 2 runs, 4 RBIs), Kevin Newkirk (2-for-5, 2 runs, 1 RBI), Seth Barber (4-for-5, 2 runs, 1 RBI), Payton Ditta (2-for-4, 4 RBIs) and Thad Horman (1-for-3, 2 runs, 1 RBI).


Clear Falls 2 - Friendswood 0

The Clear Falls Knights silenced the Friendswood bats with a 2-0 district win in a pitching duel between Clear Falls pitcher Jonathan Pascale and Friendswood hurler Brandon Deskins.

Pascale threw a complete game shutout allowing only four hits, no walks, and five strikeouts.

Deskins tossed six innings while allowing only three hits, two walks, and fanning eight with no earned runs as both Clear Falls runs scored on errors.

Friendswood's Johnnie Nemecek was 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Mustangs on offense.

Clear Falls scored a run in the top of the second and added an insurance run in the top of the third which stood for the Knights.
