Mustangs get pair of district wins

FRIENDSWOOD — The Friendswood Mustangs are finding great success in District 24-6A this season. Tied at the top of the league leaderboard with Clear Creek and a 4-1 mark, the Mustangs knocked off two district teams last week.

Ryan Shetter pitched six scoreless innings and struck out 10, leading Friendswood to an 8-0 win over Dickinson last Friday night.

The Mustangs took advantage of 10 Gator errors for the lopsided 8-0 victory.

Friendswood led just 2-0 after four innings before scoring three times each in the fifth and sixth innings to pull away for the win.

Ryan Berterlsman went 3-for-5 at the plate while Lael Lockhart went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Erik Spong pitched one inning allowing one hit and one strikeout.


Friendswood 5 - Clear Creek 2

Friendswood scored two runs in the bottom of the second and then allowed Clear Creek to tie up the game in the top of the third.

However, the Mustangs added a run in their half of the third and then scored a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure a clutch district win over the Clear Creek Wildcats to hand them their first district loss of the season.

Friendswood and Clear Creek are now tie atop the district leaderboard.

Lael Lockhart was in command for most of the game with 12 strikeouts. He allowed two earned runs on one hit and three walks over six innings. Carson Kaufman stepped in relief in the seventh to get the save.

Jacob Gwynne went 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored.
