Lady Mustangs blast Kempner 9-0 in soccer area round
Friendswood captured the District 18-5A title and improved to 21-4 overall after thumping Fort Bend Kempner 9-0 in the Class 5A Region III soccer area round.
The Lady Mustangs opened up the soccer playoffs with a 1-0 bi-district win over Crosby.
With the win, Friendswood advances to the 5A Region III quarterfinals to face Port Neches-Groves (25-3) who posted a 5-0 win over Richmond Foster.
Friendswood didn't score their first goal until the 14th minute when Giselle Kehres fired in a shot from 20 yards out which got things started 1-0.
The Lady Mustangs followed that up with three more goals for a 4-0 lead at intermission.

The Lady Mustangs dominated the second half with five more goals as Fincher scored three of those.
Rudolph and Brynn Farrar rounded out the rest of the scoring.
Overall, the Lady Mustangs showed crisp, precise passing that allowed them to set up multiple goals on offense.
"We were finally connecting passes in our attacking which is how we've been successful, and we struggle with that against Crosby, but we did well with that against Kempner," said Friendswood head coach Laura Peter.
On the other side of the ball, Friendswood showed a suffocating defense against Kempner with goalkeeper Rilee Jamar have a quiet night on her end of the field.
Lady Oilers edge Summer Creek 1-0 in area round
Last season, Pearland made an early exit in the post-season, but the Lady Oilers didn't make the same error this year as they nipped the Summer Creek Lady Bulldogs 1-0 to advance to the 6A Region III quarterfinals.
Playing on the home field of Summer Creek, the Lady Oilers (18-3-3) score their lone goal in the first half and then held on defensively to preserve the win.
Summer Creek (15-7-3) played tough defensively as well but were unable to penetrate the Pearland goal.
