Lady Mustangs advance to soccer playoffs

FRIENDSWOOD — Friendswood and Stratford faced one another in the Class 4A area round of the soccer playoffs and the Lady Mustangs pulled out a hard-fought win 4-2 in a shootout.

Both teams failed to score in regulation despite Friendswood's opportunities to win the game in both regulation and overtime.

"We've talked all season about creating chances, and we were creating them," Friendswood head coach Laura Peter said. "We just weren't finishing them, which was frustrating."

Of course, upset-minded Stratford made it hard for Friendswood as the Lady Spartan goalkeeper Martha Khun played an outstanding game.
Forward Alex Frankhouser had a pair of scoring opportunites for the Lady Mustangs as a header barely missed the mark and Khun made a great effort to stop a scoring shot at the net.

Lexi Hudson and Selina Vickery score a goal each in the shootout while Stratford matched those goals.

Rachel Troung scored for Friendswood and then Jamie McCullough made the decisive shot for the 4-2 win.

Friendswood will face district rival Texas City at Henry Winston Stadium in the region quarterfinals on Thursday, April 3 at 7:00 p.m.
