Friendswood falls to Fort Bend Clements to end season

FRIENDSWOOD — Friendswood slipped past Fort Bend Clements 2-1 in the first of their best-of-three game series in the opening round of the Class 6A Region III playoffs, but the Rangers rallied to sweep the next two games 13-3 and 2-0 to end the 2016 season for the Mustangs.

Despite not getting much offense from his teammates, Friendswood pitcher Lael Lockhart did his part against Clements by pitching six strong innings as he allowed only one run on two hits while striking out nine and allowing four walks. Jacob Crain pitched the seventh frame to pick up the save.

Clements scored in the top of the third for a 1-0 lead, but the Mustangs scored two in the bottom of the fourth to take the 2-1 lead that held up for the win.

Jerett Bell was the offensive hero for the Mustangs as he racked up two RBIs on two hits for Friendswood. He singled in the second inning and doubled in the fourth inning that brought home Friendswood's winning runs.

In the second game with pressure to have to win the game to stay in the playoffs, Clements run-ruled the Mustangs 13-3 after only five innings.

The third and final game saw a very close contest, but the results were the same as the Rangers pulled out a close 2-0 win.

Clements scored a run in the bottom of the third and fourth innings to take a 2-0 lead and they made it stand to eliminate the Mustangs from the post-season.

Friendswood go only six hits and could put enough offense together to pull out the victory.

Lael Lockhart went 2-for-2 with a double and Kevin Dupuis was 2-for-3.

Brandon Deskins took the loss for Friendswood after giving up two runs on four hits with five walks and three strikeouts.

Friendswood finishes 17-12 on the season.
