Friendswood's Pacheco, Sweeny headline All-District 23-5A selections

FRIENDSWOOD — The Friendswood Mustangs finished 10-4 in District 23-5A action this season to finish in second-place behind league champion Santa Fe.

The league coaches announced their All-District selections and two Mustangs were honored with two of the top awards.

Izaac Pacheco was named Co-Offensive MVP while William Sweeney was named Defensive MVP.

Pacheco hit .366 (15-of-41) with 12 runs scored, six RBIs, two doubles, three triples, one home run and eight stolen bases.

Sweeny hit .256 (11-for-43) with eight runs scored, 10 RBIs, and five doubles.

Named to the All-District first-team was pitcher Bradley Willcott, first baseman Kevin Newkirk, outfielder Spencer Beck and outfielder Garrett Leitko.

Willcott pitched 39.2 innings with a 1.76 ERA while striking out 47.

Newkirk hit .217 (10-for-46) with seven runs scored, eight RBIs, and five doubles.

Beck hit .381 (16-for-42) with nine runs scored, 17 RBIs, three doubles, two triples, and two home runs.

Leitko hit .367 (11-for-30) with 12 runs scored, six RBIs, two doubles, and one triple.
